Cookery Classes

Mrs O’Mahoney has put on her apron, dusted off the weighing scales and bun tins and has started giving us cookery classes.  We are really enjoying this and are enjoying the delicious smells that come from the kitchen on cookery days.  We especially love the tasting part afterwards πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

So far we have cooked Rock Buns, Chocolate Chip Cookies and today we are going to make Funfetti Blondes!!

The proof of the pudding is in the eating πŸ™‚ Yum Yum!!

Extra Curricular Activities

Keira, Rachel and Kayla have been learning to play the guitar with teacher Conor Hickey who visits the school each week for lessons.  Its a slow process and the girls have been practising hard and are getting better every day!  They are really enjoying it.

The girls have also joined up with Bofield NS and attend swimming lessons in the Ballina Swimming Pool each Wednesday up to the Mid Term Break.

Storm “Ophelia”

On Monday, 16th October, Extratropical Storm Ophelia made landfall killing three people in different incidents.  Ophelia was a post tropical storm.  Met Γ‰ireann warned that the storm would be β€œa danger to life and property.” Ophelia is the latest hurricane in an unusual season. It’s the 10th Atlantic hurricane this season; the last time there were this many was in 1893.  Plus, the last time a hurricane this powerful hit Ireland was 1961.

The Department of Educationa and Skills called for all schools to be closed on the Monday in anticipation of the severe storm and subsequently schools were also closed on the Tuesday to aid some schools who were severely hit.  Many shops and businesses also closed down on Monday.

We got off very lightly in the Ballina and surrounding areas (thankfully) as Ophelia passed over us without leaving too much destruction in its wake but parts of the south of Ireland have been badly hit with many homes and businesses without water and electricity until early next week.

More windy and stormy weather is forcast for the coming weekend as Storm Brian heads our way.  Lets hope its not as bad as Storm Ophelia!!!

This year we have three pupils attending school; Keira Harrington and Rachel Moran in 6th Class and Kayla Pearse in 1st Class. We wish the girls a great year ahead!

We will keep you posted of our hard work and the adventures that come our way throughout the year. Tune in to this channel!!!
