Cumann na mBunscol Hand Ball Competition

Darragh recently did his school proud by winning the Mayo Cumann na
mBunscol Handball competition in Castlebar Mitchell’s. He competed in the
U-13 singles division, and played a total of three matches, securing his
place in the Connacht finals with a one-ace win over Breaffy NS.
He then went on to represent Carra NS in Connaught. He was defeated
in that match but put on a great show! Everyone at Carra NS were very proud
of him !!!

Our Christmas Nativity

The pupils worked very hard together with Ms Clarke to produce a lovely Nativity story with a modern twist! We even had Donald Trump in our midst (played very well by Darragh). It all ended with a chorus of Christmas songs and tunes played on our tin whistles!! Topped off with tea and treats – sure isn’t that just the way to start the Christmas holidays 🙂

Wishing all our parents and pupils past and present a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Pottery Workshop with Fin O’Hara

Just before the Christmas Holidays we had a pottery workshop with Fin O’Hara from Tipperary. It was a very enjoyable day!
We all got to work with the clay and make some things. We each made a head, a name plate and a house. As you can see from the pictures below each house was different. We had to leave the pieces to dry over the Christmas holidays and we will paint them in the new year!!

Thank you Fin for a great fun day!!

Michael Davitt Centre School Visit

In November our school visited the Michael Davitt Museum in Straide Foxford.

On arrival we were met by a local Army Officer who gave us a talk on his role in the army and he talked about local Bonniconlon history. He them showed us weapons used in 1916 and we were allowed to handle them. We were then showed a short film about the life of Michael Davitt.
Afterwards we were taken to visit the grave of Michael Davitt and the Abbey beside the musuem. When we were brought inside again we were able to view the exhibits on display in the museum.

It was a very enjoyable experience!
